How Valentine’s Day Evolved from Religious Origins into a Celebration of Love

Over the centuries, a once religious day of remembrance has transformed into a globally celebrated day of love. Valentine’s Day traces its origins back to Saint Valentine. Poets and writers gradually began to romanticize the 14th of February, shaping its meaning over time. Geoffrey Chaucer, for instance, portrayed Valentine’s Day in one of his poems as a day for choosing a partner, leaving a lasting mark on the tradition.

From Handwritten Love Letters…

As time passed, numerous customs emerged that continue to define Valentine’s Day today. One of the most well-known traditions is the giving of flowers—red roses, in particular, have become a powerful symbol of love. In earlier times, handwritten love letters were a cherished way of expressing affection.
